Matko Sršen

Matko Sršen (Dubrovnik, 1947) is a director, playwright and poet. He has directed more than one hundred productions, both in Croatia and abroad, for stage and radio. He has received numerous awards, prizes, and recognition for a lifetime devoted to the theater, including Best Theatre Director for his production of Dostoyevsky’s „Brothers Karamazov“.

As a playwright, Matko has had more than twenty of his own works produced for theater and radio. Four books of his plays, essays, and poetry have been published. He was the Head of Theater Directing Department at the Academy of Dramatic Art at Zagreb University.

His novel „Odohohol and Cally Rascal“, a first one in a series about two friends, combining many genres: science-fiction, fantasy, psychology and teenage drama, has been translated to English and Macedonian.

The Dutch edition of Slobodan Šnajder’s The Brass Age (Wereldbibliotheek, translated by Roel Schuyt) has sold astonishing 15.000 copies in the Netherlands across 8 reprints! The original Croatian edition of the novel was published in 2015 (TIM Press); in 2021, 4th edition was published by the Croatian publisher Bodoni.

The Brass Age was awarded several, mostly regional, literary awards: Meša Selimović Award, the Mirko Kovač Award, Kočićevo Pero, T-Portal Prize and Radomir Konstantinović Award.

Ivan Vidak

Ivan Vidak (Sombor, 1981), a writer and a playwright. He holds a degree in dramaturgy from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. He lives and works in Zagreb. A collection of short stories “Carbon in the Sun” (Ugljik na suncu) is his first and, so far, only book, that was shortlisted for Edo Budiša Award for the Best Short Story in 2015.

Croatian publishers at the 2025 London Book Fair

Book&zvook, the first Croatian platform and application for audiobooks, along with Sandorf publishing house and literary agency, will participate at this year’s London Book Fair, with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media.

From March 11-13th, the platform will exhibit its editions and technology on one of central manifestations in publishing industry, attracting leading experts from all around the world. “Our mission is to bring our editions to the new generations of listeners, building a bridge between traditional publishing and the digital age”, said Ljubica Letinić, the co-founder of book&zvook. To date, book&zvuk published close to 150 audiobooks, with over 20.000 active users and more than 40.000 downloads.

The Fair is an excellent opportunity to showcase the ever-growing collection of audiobooks of contemporary Croatian prose in English translation, available on the book&zvook platform and all the major audiobooks apps. The Croatian stand will be located within the Audio Village section of the Olympia (3A30), and will feature appearances by the two renowned Croatian authors, Maša Kolanović and Monika Herceg.

Croatia at the Leipzig Book Fair 2025

Croatia is participating at the Leipzig Book Fair 2025 in collaboration with the Traduki network, that connects Southeast Europe with the German-speaking world. From March 27-30, a selection of recent works in Croatian fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and children’s literature will be exhibited at the Croatian National Stand (H4 D306), as well as several works of Croatian authors in German translation.

Two of our authors, Edo Popović and Asja Bakić, will participate in the official program of this renowned literary manifestation alongside other notable authors from the region. Traduki’s program, Your Language, Passport and Two, Three Photos, inspired by the verses by the North Macedonian author Lidija Dimkovska, will focus on the topic of flight.

Literature from Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe has always been important for this major German book fair, second largest after Frankfurt; as such, it represents an excellent opportunity to showcase our literary talent to a number of publishers, agents, scounts and fellow authors.
