Jurica Pavičić awarded with Grand Prix de Littérature Policière for best translated crime novel in 2021.

The French translation of the novel "Red Water" (L’Eau rouge) by Jurica Pavičić has just been awarded with a third French literary prize - Grand Prix de Littérature Policière for best translated crime novel in 2021! Le Grand Prix de Littérature Policière is among the most renowned literary recognitions in France. Established in 1948, the prize is awarded in two categories, for best crime fiction written in French, and best crime novel translated into French.

Previous laureates for the prize in translation include Patricia Highsmith, Stanisław Lem, Mary Higgins Clark, Elmore Leonard,  P. D. James, Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin, Camilla Läckberg, to name just a few.

At the Quais du polar Festival in July, "L’Eau Rouge" has been awarded with the coveted  Le Point du Polar européen for best European crime novel by an European author, and the Transfuge prize for best crime novel in translation awarded by the French monthly culture magazine. Red Water was first published in Croatian in 2017 by Profil and was translated into French by Olivier Lannuzel. Agullo, the French publisher, congratulated both the author and the translator on their social media.

Prior to the international accolades, this novel has achieved significant success in Croatia as well, winning Ksaver Šandor Đalski and Fric award, along with being shortlisted for the coveted tportal and Meša Selimović prizes for best novel in 2017. It was translated into German as well. 

“It is quite flattering to find myself in company of authors I see as literary role models, such as Patricia Highsmith, Stanisław Lem, P. D. James and Ian Rankin. I hope this will encourage translation into other languages as well”, said Jurica Pavičić.

Novi list on Sonja Manojlović

Although close to some current poetic trends, Sonja Manojlović has carried out and accomplished her search for poetic authenticity in an independent and poetically intriguing way.

Nikola Đuretić' haiku included in 'The Awakened One', another haiku anthology published in the USA

Nikola Đuretić haiku has been included in the anthology "The Awakened One", published in the USA by Poetry Chaikhana. Poets from around the world (USA, Australia, Japan, India, New Zealand, UK, Ghana, Brazil) are featured in this haiku anthology, edited by the famous Irish author Gabriel Rosenstock and the Ghanaian poet Adjei Agyei-Baah.

Đuretić was also included in two other anthologies in the past six months: "The Signature Haiku Anthology" (Middle Island Press; Robert Epstein, ed.) and "Gratitude – The Haiku Hecameron" (Girasole Press; Scott Mason, ed.).

Just recently his haiku received The International Sakura Award at Haiku Invitational within the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival.

 

The 9th Lit Link Festival – from 6th to 9th October – in Zagreb, Labin, and Rijeka

The 9th edition of the Lit Link Festival, organized by the Croatian Writers' Society, will be held 6th – 9th October 2021. This year’s edition presents guests from German-speaking territories – authors, editors, and publishers – and Croatian authors at events in Zagreb, Labin, and Rijeka.

Robert Prosser, Lena Müller, Jana Volkmann, Martin Peichl, Jan Peter Bremer, and Uwe von Seltmann are among the German guest-authors, while Croatian guest-authors include Nada Topić, Lora Tomaš, Damir Karakaš, Ante Zlatko Stolica, Želimir Periš, Jasen Boko, Tatajana Gromača, Sinan Gudžević, Korana Serdarević, Marko Tomaš, Jurica Gašpar and Dunja Matić Benčić.

Along with organizing readings by foreign and Croatian authors, The Lit Link Festival is equally dedicated to the promotion of Croatian literary production to international editors and publishers. Therefore, German editors, publishers and agents also participate in the programme: Sebastian Guggolz (Guggolz Verlag), Janika Rütter (Suhrkamp), Laura Siegismund (Merlin Verlag), Sophia Hungerhoff (Mare Verlag), Janek Domonell (literary agent), Chloé Billon (literary translator).

A projection of both Croatian and German translation will be set up for all readings.


Stefan Heym Prize for Slavenka Drakulić and Richard Swartz

The Croatian writer Slavenka Drakulić and the Swedish author Richard Swartz were awarded the City of Chemnitz’s International Stefan Heym Prize, endowed with 20,000 euros!

This award, presented every three years since 2008, bears the name of the Chemnitz-born writer Stefan Heym, considered one of the most important authors in German post-war history and the voice of opposition literature in the GDR.  Furthermore, the prize is intended to honor “time-critical and courageous personalities who, like Stefan Heym, have made outstanding and lasting achievements as writers and/or publicists”.

Richard Swartz accepted the award in Chemnitz while Slavenka Drakulić connected via video call. Sven Schulze, Mayor of Chemnitz, stated: “Slavenka Drakulić and Richard Swartz are two publicists and writers who, like Stefan Heym, convince with their analytical sharpness and who deal with major European issues in their works.” Amoz Oz and Bora Ćosić are among the previous recipients of this esteemed award.
