Poetry International on Branko Čegec’s poetry

His is also a poetry of engagement, in the sense that it takes a reactive stance to events in the immediate social environment. And here his poems may be read as texts written by an observer who is a chance participant (even an unwilling one) in the events which are taking place in front of the reader, one who in speaking of the other wishes to speak of himself as a lyric subject.

 

Helena Sablić Tomić

Helena Sablić Tomić (Osijek, 1968) is a renowned literary critic and the dean of the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek since 2006. She gained her master’s degree at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb in 1997 with the thesis Nineties Short Story – Library and Authors of the Quorum Magazine. In 2001 she gained her doctor’s degree with the dissertation Models of Contemporary Autobiographical Prose. Sablić Tomić teaches literature and culture at the Academy for Arts and Culture in Osijek and was the first ambassador of Desk Creative Europe for the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media.

She’s the author or editor of numerous books and more than 100 scientific papers and has written screenplays for several documentaries, including those about Irena Vrkljan and Božidar Violić. For her work, she has received many prestigious awards including Josip and Ivan Kozarac Award 1997 and 2017 for the best scientific work, Fran Galović Award 2000, Julije Benešić Award 2005, Stipan Bilić-Prcić Award of The Foundation of The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Delimir Rešicki

Delimir Rešicki (Osijek, 1960) graduated in Croatian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Osijek. He is a poet, writer, literary critic and editor of the daily newspaper Glas Slavonije. He is one of the leading contemporary Croatian poets and his poems have been included in various anthologies and translated into German, English, Italian, French, Swedish, Spanish, Hungarian, Polish, Slovak, Russian, Bulgarian, Macedonian and Slovene, in magazines and standalone publications.

He participated in the international multimedia projects “Matria Europa” (Kunst Ruimte, Amsterdam 1996) and “soundtrack. psi” (Osijek, 2001). Delimir Rešicki won numerous literary awards, including the Vladimir Nazor Award in 2005 and 2015, the Hubert Burda Preis in 2008 and the Saint Quirinus Award in 2015, for his outstanding contribution to Croatian poetry.
